The Benefits of Moving to the United States
The US is a nation of immigrants. With the exception of Native Americans, every US citizen is a descendant of immigrants, and that diversity is one of the country’s great strengths. If you are considering becoming an EB-5 investor and obtaining a Green Card for yourself, your spouse and unmarried children under age 21, you, too, have the opportunity of moving to the United States and discovering for yourself what this country has to offer.
No Class System
Unlike many other countries, the US has never had a formal class system. While there are obvious differences in wealth among residents, a person willing to work hard can rise to the top of society. That’s not the case in lands where ethnicity, religion or caste may dictate how far you can go in life.
A Sense of Community
Because the US is an immigrant country, new arrivals can find communities made up of people from their native land. That can make the transition to life in the US easier, especially for adults. While learning about life in the US, they can still enjoy a cultural connection with their native country, including familiar food, films, celebrations and religious ceremonies. While immigrants should strive to improve their English as much as possible to acclimate to US life, it is comforting to know there are places where you can converse with people in your native tongue and receive the sort of advice that an established immigrant can impart to a more recent arrival.
Parks and Recreation
No matter where you chose to live in the US – and an EB-5 investor can live anywhere they like – you’ll find plenty of recreational opportunities. The US has plenty of National Parks, many of them world-famous, such as Yellowstone. There are even more state, county and local parks and sports facilities. If you’re a sports enthusiast, you and your children will find ample options for team or individual play, whether your sport of choice is soccer, golf, tennis or any of the American favorites such as baseball or basketball. Having your child join a sports league is a good way to meet people in your town and make new friends.
While the school system varies by locale, the US boasts some of the best schools in the world for your children, starting in nursery school and going on through college. In addition to academics, American schools offer many extracurricular activities for students, ranging from sports, music, art, computers and clubs for every interest.
If there’s a certain type of climate you prefer, you can find it in the US. Warm weather aficionados should like areas as varied as Florida, California, Hawaii and much of the Southwest. If you love mountain vistas or have long had a love affair with the American West, there are plenty of states you can call home. Winter sports are popular in New England, the Upper Midwest and states such as Colorado, Idaho and Montana. Even in states where winters may prove harsh, spring, summer and fall are usually verdant and beautiful. If you love the beach, head to the East or West Coasts and enjoy the sun, sand and surf.
Plenty of Housing Choices
In the US, it isn’t hard to find the type of housing best suited to your needs. Whether that’s a city apartment, townhouse or suburban home, you’ll have plenty of choices. While some of America’s housing stock is older, there is a lot of spacious newer housing featuring standard amenities such as central heating and air conditioning, big backyards, top-of-the-line appliances and fireplaces. Many suburban homes sport that quintessential American entertainment center known as the swimming pool and patio.
American culture has turned convenience into an art form. Americans expect good service, whether at restaurants, sporting events or clubs. There’s even a convenience store every few miles in areas that aren’t necessarily that populated so that you can always pick up the items you need. In many places, such stores are open 24/7. Americans take pride in their customer service, and you should expect a warm welcome and friendliness when out shopping or dining.
Whether you want to go on vacation in the US or head back to your native country for a visit, travel is easy. In most places, a major airport is at best a few hours’ drive away.
The Immigrant Experience
No one offers better insight into a new life in the US than those who have already had the experience of moving to the United States. Here are some observations from immigrants from different parts of the globe:
Elena Ledoux, CEO of Superb Maids and co-founder of MommyGo, moved to the US 18 years ago. “My favorite part about moving to the US was how I was no longer defined by my race, age, or gender. I know things are not perfect here, but they’re infinitely better than in most other places in the world. I was able to pursue my potential fully because of this,” she says.
Blogger Jarek Grochal came to the US from Poland in 1994. “The move to the US was an opportunity for me and while I didn’t see it when I was younger, I look back at that time and see all the amazing things that moving here has given me,” he says. “I have a high quality of life and a successful career and a lot of that is because my parents chose to come here as immigrants and make a better life for us.”
Dr. Samir Habib, the co-founder of Conscious Ed, moved to the US from Australia several years ago. “I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and my favorite part is living in the vibrant entrepreneurial culture that is leading the world in innovation. I love everything California has to offer, including but not limited to SpaceX’s rocket launches (that I can watch from my home town in Berkeley) and the glitz and glamor of Hollywood,” according to Habib.
